I'm trying Technorati's new "Link Count Widget" on my blog -- it's a bit of Javascript that adds the number of other sites linking to each post. It's a nice way if reinforcing the notion that blog posts don't exist in isolation, but are often part of a larger conversation.
Tantek describes the feature in more detail here and you can get the code here.

Unfortunately, as I found out when I added the widget, it's also a way of reinforcing the hard truth that blog posts often DO exist in isolation.
Heh. True enough, Eric.
It would be nice if the widget were more customizable; I'd prefer not to show the link if there were no results. A little CSS control would be nice too.
There's a similar problem when it comes to counting Google (or Yahoo) backlinks. Maybe you can look into that, Jeff, now that you're 'inside'. *smile*
What's the use of a goddamn widget if these guys don't even answer your tech troubles. Not only the stats come up wrong most of the time...no one at Technorati even bothers about it.
Technorati's instructions for adding the Link Count Widget to a TypePad blog aren't very helpful.
"Click 'entry-list' at the bottom, and paste the following code where you want the widget to appear"
Entry list???
Thanks for pointing us to Technorati's Link Count Widget, I am going to try this out!!
So it's like TrackBack/PingBack without the spam? Brilliant.
