September conferences

Industry events like conferences and workshops are a good bellwether for the economy. Things are getting a little crazy again but that's good -- meeting the people behind all the new ideas, blogs, products, and companies builds a strong sense of community that felt lacking a few years ago.

So I'm attending and speaking more of them these days, including a couple of conferences in the new few weeks. First comes a trip to Brighton for d.construct 2006 -- which, as an interesting data point, sold out in 36 hours. I did a podcast interview with them about some of the themes we'll be discussing there.

Then, it's right back home for the Future of Web Apps summit, which is being hosted by my pal Ryan Carson. Not only has he put together a great couple of days, but he was also kind enough to hold his event just a few blocks from where I live. Nice!

What else is going on? Have you been to any interesting conferences? Looking forward to any?

If the Future of Web Apps conference is anything like the one Ryan put on in London it should be excellent. I thought I'd simply be bowled over by buzzwords, but it was a fantastic mix of solid, practical advice from the people that are building cool things like delicious and Flickr, as well as a higher level look at some of the more general concepts of where we're going with Web 2.0 and web applications. Really fantastic day - and you've got two days!

I'll be down at d.construct so maybe see you there?

The DC Metro UPA chapter is doing a one day even in October. There are also some open source things such as the HCI day at KDE's Akademy.

Hi Jeff. As you know, SHiFT - Social and Human Ideas For Technology is going to happen in Lisbon on September 28 to 29. It's a shame you couldn't make it this year. I hope to see a lot of people from the States there!

Jeff,

September is the conferenciest month.

Web Directions, the successor to Web Essentials, whose stage you lit up last year, is on September 28 and 29. Time flies eh?

Future of Web Apps should be good - the one in London was amazing!

Quite looking forward to d.Construct, though at the moment events seem to be conspiring to keep me in the USA for longer then I had anticipated (on the bright side, getting plenty of material for an Office Space-esque sitcom should I ever decide to leave the corporate game!). Hopefully I should be able to make it though, will be nice to be back in Brighton after 2 months.

Of course, there is also Flash on the Beach to look forward to in December, though as its Brighton... and December... I'm not sure how sensible the "on the Beach" part is!

Also hoping to make either Flash Forward, or Adobe Max... I'm really interested to find out more on the Apollo platform...

Jeff, thanks for the excellent session at dconstruct. Can you remind me of the link to your PDF of the presentation - it flashed by on the screen and now I can't find it...

Jeff, great presentation at d.Construct. We came all the way to Brighton to hear you speaking and it was worth it! Please speak in Europe some more if you have the chance. Got some new interesting views now.

Hey Jeff,

I just wanted to let you know that looking forward to your part of this event was not at all in vain. I really enjoyed what you had to say, and hope to see you speak again sometime soon. It was great to meet you and to take in your respectable knowlege to help grow my own. Thank you very much helping to make this event so valuable to everyone attending.

Ryan
