At Least I've Got Brakes
Descending a rather steep hill on my bike in the Presidio, I heard a strange sort of scraping noise coming up behind me. I looked over my shoulder to find a kid maybe 15 years old on a skateboard. He pulled up next to me, smiled, then tucked down into a crouch and sped ahead. I looked down at my computer.
32mph.

is that any different than brAKEs? :)
I really have no idea how I survived my skateboarding phase. I remember once, passing a mail truck, and the guy told me I was doing 25mph (but that was hardly my top speed). I also remember riding down steep hills only to discover that the turn at the bottom was too tight. You only have about 4 seconds to find a bush (or some other soft landing), or else!
Riding up a gradual incline on my Bianchi I passed a kid, also about 15 or so, on one of those motorized scooters. He sped up, I think pissed that an old guy on a bike passed him, passed me. Well that road does a pretty good drop after it crests the top and I'm thinking is this kid going to careen down on that little scooter, He puls off itn o a parking lot and I speed down the decent at 35-40 mph. Chalk one up for old guys on bikes.
I used to do that when I was fifteen. I still have the scars on my elbows and knees to prove it.
