My inbox is full of friends asking if that was me yesterday. Indeed, I was interviewed on both KTVU-2 and KGO-7 at the T-Mobile International bike race in San Francisco yesterday. And what a race it was. Eki, Vino, Gartzelli, Simone, and -- of course -- Armstrong, climbing hills two blocks from my house. I'm working on getting some video online, but for now, check out this image I snapped with my phone. Are there other sports where you can be this close to your heros?

I'm a fan of boxing and martial arts. Even if I could that close I don't think I'd want to. ;)
Maybe I could use the timer on my camera and then throw it at them, that might work. But then I'd end being even closer to them than that would be healthy for me.
I was about 4 feet away from Tiger Woods this summer at the Western Open in Central Illinois.
It was an absolutely incredible experience, I can't explain it!
I was standing next to him as he was *so close* to the athletes. The fact that he still has that damn camera phone is a miracle.
Also - Celine Dion is quite the camera-slut that Veen is.
hey...where's my pic you took in the bar?!
;^)
Even better yet, bike races are free to attend. No laying out wads of cash for the family to attend (insert your favorite arena sport here).
Hockey. You can get to within about 1/4 to 1/2 inch.
