26 months and counting . . .
Happy 26 month birthday, Sophia!
This week you turned 26 months, and let me just say, this past month has been a memorable one. There’s a lot going on in our lives right now and I’ve not been great recently about keeping this blog updated. But I don’t feel too bad about it either. I have been in full-on action mode–watching you, playing with you, having hilarious conversations with you. It’s been great. I feel ready to get back to documenting our lives together, but my little sabbatical was definitely a welcome break.
You were quite the hilarious and charming monkey for Halloween this year. When all the other little girls at your daycare party were pretty princesses surrounded by a sea of tulle and tiaras, you were a fuzzy brown primate with a goofy tail and a deep love for “nanas”. I know it doesn’t seem like it in this photo, but you actually loved your costume. You seem mad about being the odd man out here, but really those are just fearful tears that mama was going to leave the daycare party at any minute.
We’re still working on the tears, but I’m coming to terms with the fact that you are just a sensitive and empathetic kid. Things resonate deeply with you, and I don’t think there has ever been a time when you have seen me (or anyone else) cry and haven’t cried along or patted my back. Your compassion is something that I totally cherish in you. I really hope you never lose this tender quality.
There’s so much I dig about you. The way you say “Yes, mommy” so politely when I ask you a question and “Be I escooosed?” when you are done with your dinner and want to leave the table. Or how about the time you yelled “FART!” on your changing table and then started cracking up like a junior high boy? These things remind me again and again what a funny and sweet kid you truly are. Thanks again for letting me hang around and watch you grow.

She was such a cute monkey! So soft and fuzzy - I just wanted to snuggle her all evening while she was wearing that costume.
And boy is that girl a clown… constantly trying to find ways to make us laugh. Hopefully she’ll learn when to turn off the comedy too, but for now I’m happy she’s learned the importance of being so funny.
