It’s big. It’s purple. And it’s leaving immediately.

Sophia was watching a little PBS this morning as I was packing up our bag for the beach. I left the family room for a few minutes while I gathered up a couple things we needed for the day around the house. She was watching the channel live, which is pretty unusual in our house (oh ReplayTV, how we love you!), so I didn’t notice that the show must have ended and a new one started. All of a sudden Sophia bursts into my bedroom to find me, out of breath and as excited as I’ve ever seen her.

What the heck is going on out there, I wondered? It’s gotta be something pretty amazing for this kind of reaction.

“Mommy, mommy…COME! LOOK TV!”

I followed her as she danced her way back into the room. Jumping excitedly she squealed, “Lookie!” It was almost like she was introducing me to a long-lost friend.

On the TV? Barney.

Crap.

Kid’s never seen that at our house before. How, then, do we explain the pleased, yet frenzied, recognition in her innocent little eyes? Oh yeah . . . thanks, Grandma.

Yet another thing we have in common. No Barney in our house either!

I confess - she also saw it at my house. Oops.

Grammy!! You too?? I should have known… ;)

Jennifer–Amen, sister!

You HAVE to stop that, now!

yes, she “accidentally” saw it here, too. She was enthralled. It was on just before Caillou Of course, Noah and Zach did leave some old videos here.
It won’t warp her mind! Love, Gramma
PS have they done any studies yet?

Ugh. I can’t handle Barney. It’s not the big goofy dinosaur, it’s those 12 year olds dancing around trying to sound like they’re three. I get me the willies just thinking about it. =) No Barney in this house!

:) I have a confession. Teletubbies have entered the house.

Grandma–believe me, I KNOW it was you who introduced Sophia and Barney to each other. No studies done that I know of, probably because we all know what they’d say: don’t show your children Barney!

John and Lisa–I agree!

Shands–NO!! Teletubbies are freaky too! But not AS bad. They are more like a train wreck where, when you see them you can’t look away. They are a strange force to be reckoned with.

LOL! I’m so glad that someone is noticing that costume designer’s hard work!
