What a Staller
Sophia is a sly one, that kid. She has learned the art of stalling in a big way recently. Her nighttime and naptime rituals are becoming longer and longer each day. Usually, at night, it’s just the request for a couple extra books or a stuffed animal she’s noticed missing from the army that sleeps with her each night. But today, Chris hopped onto IM to give me the latest update.
“Want to hear how hilarious your child is?” he asks. “Um, always!” I say. He then proceeds to tell me about the naptime ritual that just took place between him and our goofy daughter.
Chris: Puts Sophia down for a nap and tries, unsuccessfully, to leave the room.
Sophia: “Diaper!”
Chris: Changes diaper. Puts kid back in bed.
Sophia: “Book… bunny…”
Chris: Gets bunny book and kisses her goodnight.
Sophia: “Snuggle!”
Chris: “No, you need to nap in the bed.”
Sophia: “Clean!”
Chris: “You’re already clean.”
Sophia: “Meh-cine!”
Chris: “You’ve taken your medicine.”
Sophia: … (Thinking hard, I’m sure.)
Sophia: “SNUGGLE!!”
Chris: “Goodnight, bug. I love you.”

Yes, our bedtime routine has gotten longer as well. Those toddlers are masterful manipulators!
