On being just mom…

Asphalt photo shootSophia, who is only a year and a half (going on 13), has taken to calling me mom now when she wants my attention. No biggie, right? That’s who I am. But, c’mon, she’s still just a baby! I was banking on her calling me mommy — or at least mama — for a few more years. And all of a sudden this weekend she busted out the full-on cantankerous “maaaahhh-aaahhhm!” Two full syllables of teenaged attitude. Oh sure, I still get a mommy when she needs hugs. But come snack time or video-changing time it’s mom, thankyouverymuch. (Which I suppose is still better than the fact that she had taken to calling me Amy last week for about a day after hearing daddy refer to me by my real name. Luckily that didn’t catch on!)

Can anyone tell me how to slow down this whole growing up process?

I only wish I knew! I thought Emily started calling me Mom really early too. Just as bad is how she used to call me “honey” but now I’m just “hon”. I get some interesting reactions when people overhear that one. I do draw the line at her calling me Lisa. Oh brother!

We have a law in our house. A “NO GROWING” law. Unfortunately, I have had to put Chloe on Restriction because she doesn’t obey the law. When will she ever learn!?

awww…. well just think, she’ll eventually revert back to her “mommy” days. though i called my mom “mother” in high school, now that i’m away from home, its mommy or mama all the way!

Lisa - totally laughing about “hon”!! That is seriously the cutest thing ever!

Shayne - I guess if they have to grow up and get big, at least they’re doing it together, right? ;)

Becca - Chris actually joked that he was going to teach her to call me mother, and I about cried! I told him it was all I could handle just to be called mom already. But thanks for letting me know that “mommy” comes back eventually!
