19 months and counting…

Slide! Happy 19 month birthday, Sophia!

This weekend you turned 19 months old and it practically flew by us in a whirlwind of Easter activity. You’ve been so excited about eggs and candy and baskets, you hardly knew what to do with yourself. Watching you experience each new holiday and milestone keeps getting more and more fun for us.

What is also fun is the way you are learning to play with your friends. You and your best friend Chloe get to hang out almost every day, and it’s really helping you learn about the whole sharing concept. Not that you’ve figured it out yet — Grabby McGimmethat — but I’m confident you’ll learn it someday. Soon, hopefully. But for now I will just be content watching you and your little friends pause from playing from time to time to give each other bear hugs. We’re getting exceedingly close to the cuteness quota with all that hugging, but I’m willing to push the limits for that.
Hey, good lookin'...
We just got you a play kitchen, and your pretending has risen to a whole new level. You spend hours “cooking” up anything you can find in the house that looks even remotely food-like. I am keeping my fingers crossed that you’ve inherited daddy’s foodie tendencies. You sure seem to love it. Even if the plastic hot dog is the favorite in your little kitchen right now. But, well, they just don’t make plastic baby sushi or truffles. We’ll start lowbrow and work our way up, how’s that?
So serious
The biggest thing going on with you right now is that you’re weaning. You have held onto your morning and bedtime nursing sessions until now, which we’ve both cherished. But you are growing up, and this was the natural next step for us. I wasn’t prepared for how emotional this process would be for us both. We’re getting through it though, despite me having to sing you every song I know six times each night to help soothe you. This picture above pretty much sums up our current feelings on the whole process — you’re not thrilled at all, and I’m trying to stay positive.
On vacation!
You are becoming more of an individual every day — figuring out your likes and dislikes, learning more words (or just making up your own) and creating new games and ways to have fun, both with us and by yourself. Your personality shines and you bubble with life and energy. You’re on your way to two years old, and if this stage is any indication of what kind of kid you’ll be when that milestone rolls around, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be terrible at all!

Don’t be so sure…I think you could find any pretend food you can imagine, for a price. =)

Your baby has grown into a gorgeous little girl!

OMG. The video game playing kills me! She is sooo beautiful and I cry just thinking of having to weane Stella some day. I’m sure I’ll feel differently about it after I’ve been doing it for nineteen months! Blessings to you and your sweet, sweet, sweet family!!!

Oh my gosh, Lisa. That toy sushi set is the funniest thing ever! Thanks for the laugh!

And yes, Shandy, even after (especially after) 19 months the weaning is terribly hard and emotional. My comfort is knowing that every time one of these precious stages ends, a new one begins!

Thank’s for keeping us posted in life with Sophia. You’re antics crack me up. As far as kid’s kitchen food goes, you can actually get sushi at “The Lakeshore Learning Store.” You can even order it online!

I love her blue eyes! Wanna give her a hug too!
