It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

May your days be merry and bright...Well, at least inside our house it is. Outside it’s still in the upper 70s and not at all wintery. But since we got our Christmas decorations put up, I’m totally in the holiday spirit. Sophia decided to help, too, and made a great assistant while modeling and tangling the lights we were luckily not planning to use.

I’m more of a white lights kind of girl, but those cool colored lights in Sophia’s clutches are remnants of kitschy Christmases of yesteryear. When we first got married, Chris and I created the most vintage (read: campy and kitsch) tree we could muster, which came out to be a 3-feet-tall Charlie Brown tree filled to capacity with disco balls and bubble lights and glittered glass bulbs. That tree has since been traded in for a more family-friendly 6-feet-tall tree decorated with ornaments ranging from snowmen PEZ to Christmas Grovers. Classy, I know. But it’s got white lights! Instant chic!

I am really excited about the holiday season this year. Sophia is filled with awe and wonder about everything these days — from warm glowing lights to a living tree inside our house to big packages coming in the mail from Mr. Amazon with her name on them. It’s enough to make this mommy slow down and take it all in with fresh eyes. I find myself staying as far away from malls as I can manage, opting instead to shop mostly online so that I can save my precious time creating new traditions with my family and hopefully holding onto some from my childhood.

Also, I finally got around to giving Girl’s Life a winter makeover. The new header image (which I haven’t decided to keep for sure) is from a trip to the Sequoia Mountains we took last year with our church. Lots of snow and one little babe for four days! That was brave, I tell you.

Be blessed, all, this season. And remember to slow down at least a couple times with family and friends over a glass of wine and some Dean Martin.

Cute! Put a Star on her head and she’s better than a christmas tree!!

Hey, I’m a fan of the disco tree! The more glitter, the better, I say.

This is one of the cutest pictures ever! Just a suggestion, mix in Dean Martin with some Nat King Cole :o) Ever since I was a kid, that was Christmas.
