Guess it’s that time of year
All around me people are getting sick. We all had the family cold in our house for the past week. Runny noses, achy bodies, sneezes and sore throats. Of course, Sophia got it first and was kind enough to share.
Why is it that the little ones always get sick first and just when we are ready to jump into full-blown parental medic, we come down with it ourselves? Oh yeah, it must have something to do with the fact that Sophia touches and tastes EVERYTHING. Especially all things germy. You might have had Martha Stewartesque ideas before you had children about disinfecting everything in your baby’s world before it goes into her mouth. But yeah, that’s just not possible. She will find the ONE thing that has germs on it in the entire house (probably the size of a pea, which is why you didn’t see it in the first place) and your baby will grab it with her fabulous and newly-learned pincer grab and stick it right into the germ factory that is her mouth. And since she’s all about the big open-mouthed kisses, everyone near that mouth is bound to end up with whatever she’s got.
Anyway, I thought we were all getting better from the shared cold. It wasn’t even that bad, really. Not bad enough for me to stay home from work, which is how I usually judge the severity of an illness. But today Sophia woke up with a fever, at one point reaching 103 degrees, and has just lounged and slept most of the day being all snuggly and sweet (the only good thing in all this). On top of the cough and diarrhea and fever and just general lethargic fussiness, I think she’s also got thrush, which has resulted in a vehement refusal of anything food related (besides mama’s milk, thank goodness).
But hopefully a trip to the doctor first thing in the morning will get us revived enough to get back to practicing Sophia’s new skill with full force. Being sick is bad enough, but watching your kid be sick just sucks.

Yep, Gavin licked the checkout counter at Walmart (crap, did I just admit I shop at Walmart?) so I’m expecting Gavin take us down with him when the unspeakable germs begin to wreck havoc on his body.
I so hear you on being snuggly as a teeny tiny perk of illness. She looks absolutely gorgeous! Cooties become her.
Hope you all feel better soon.
