Update on the Hunger Strike
The hunger strike seems to be officially over. By “officially over” I mean that the girl scarfed down so much food yesterday, you would think she was a college frat boy. Add that to her very audible burping and farting, and you’d have a very hard time distinguishing her from an 18-year-old dude. I’m not sure if by speaking about it, I’m somehow jinxing it, but I guess we can always fall back on cheese and raisins for nourishment if she decides to go on strike again. Those seem to be the exception right now. So we’re back to messy as usual at mealitimes!
Also, I decided to Tivo some PBS for Sophia to change up the video line-up she’s got right now. There’s only so much Baby Bach a girl can handle. And besides, PBS = smart granola kid who will grow up to listen to NPR, right? So this morning we tried out Seasame Street, and it’s official — Elmo is kid crack. She was MESMORIZED! That dude is freaky though. The voice. The 3rd person references. The constant dancing. Seriously? But I guess I’ll have to get used to it because she really loved him and bounced right along with him the whole time.
Also, I showed her an episode of Teletubbies, but both Chris and I were so horrified that they’re now officially off the play list. I pray to all that is holy and good in the world that Sophia will not be exposed to them again or (God forbid!) Barney when she is out of my presence. A mother can only do so much. . .

I love your blog! I agree, I don’t know what it is about Elmo, but he sucks kids in. Emily fell in love with him even before she saw the show. (Christoph won a 3 foot Elmo for her at the fair.) After you watch a few episode you’ll notice they all have the exact same sequence and just the theme changes. I guess that appeals to a kids need for consistancy. On the subject of freaky kid’s shows, Tellatubbies and Barney are banned at our house as well. My mom, of all people, sent me a link to a blog entry about that very subject. Check it out, it’s pretty funny. http://shiveredsky.blogspot.com/2006/05/top-ten-weirdest-creepiest-freakiest.html
I like to think my kid is smarter then to WANT to watch some of these shows, but probably not. She is very perplexed however, about how Larry the cucumber can play the guitar with no hands. =)
