9 months and counting…
Happy 9 month birthday, Sophia!
Wow, baby girl — nine months already? That definitely seems like some sort of landmark age. It sure feels like it anyway. I mean, it’s how long it took me to grow you! And since we’re talking about growing, in the past month you’ve grown more in your motor skills and personality than any other month so far.
You’ve had so many “firsts” this month that mommy’s having a hard time keeping up — crawling, pulling yourself up to stand, waving bye-bye. There’s something new practically every day that I’ve kind of given up on the baby book for right now, having started instead capturing all your milestones in my little online Backpack. That way I can remember all those great achievements when I actually have a chance to sit down and work on your baby book.
But I don’t forsee that happening anytime soon — you are waaaaaaay too mobile right now! I feel like I’m chasing you around the house all day long. It was only just this past month that you really truly started crawling. No more of that scooting business. That’s for babies. There is no stopping you now! You are all about the “army man in the trenches” crawl these days. (Still have to figure out how to lift that tummy off the ground when you crawl so you can stop ruining all your shirts!)
Also, at your checkup this week I think I’m going to have the doctor check to make sure you’re a normal kid because you sure love to eat your veggies. Absolutely love them. But fruit you could pass on. Bananas? Peaches? Not a chance. Spinach or carrots or cucumbers? Anytime! I’m not too concerned about that though. You’ve got a great palate and you love trying new foods. Just this month you found out that you LOVE hummus (that’s my girl!) and even like yourself a little broiled salmon from time to time. I didn’t even know of the existence of most of the foods you eat until I was so much older. But hands down, like a good Dutch girl, cheese is still your all time favorite. And you’re starting to feed yourself a little, too. But most of the food you pick up and try to get into your mouth usually stays glued to your sticky little hands. We’ll have to keep working on that.
Another cute (but frustrating!) thing you like to do these days is to stand up in your crib. Actually, as I type this I’ve had to go and “rescue” you already about two four seven times. You pull yourself up, which makes you so very excited and pleased with yourself, but then you can’t figure out how to get back down. That’s where I come in. Despite your extreme independence, you still need mommy. That feels good. Even after the seventh time.
You are starting to make friends, you are enjoying the outdoors and you are just plain hilarious to be around. I can’t believe one year is just around the corner! I’m having so much fun, and I love you, sweetie.
