7 months and counting…
Happy 7 month birthday, Sophia!
Today you got to get dressed up and celebrate! We took Grandma to The Mission Inn for lunch to celebrate her birthday. (The Mission Inn is a beautifully restored national historic landmark in Riverside, CA that’s been around since 1902 and is designed and furnished in the Arts and Crafts style. The architecture is amazing.)
It was a beautiful day and a beautiful venue. We sat outside by the fountain, and in between fussing with plastic keys and sugar wrappers in your mouth, Grandma and I actually got to enjoy a nice lunch. Grandma was (and is) enamored with you, to say the least. I can’t say that I blame her, what with the cute little coy smile you’ve been busting out these days. Little girl, you might be small, but your powers are mighty. You’re quite the charmer, and I fear for those who get caught in your gaze.
After lunch, we stopped for coffee and dessert. You couldn’t believe your luck when we came upon someone’s abandoned mylar balloon. And your luck grew when I actually let you hold it. Since it was it was practically bigger than your whole body, it was definitely too big to fit in your mouth, so you did the palming method of exploring. Oh, the sound! Thrilling! Of course, everyone who walked by looked at me like I had let you play with a chef’s knife and hypodermic needles. What a bad mother to give her little baby a balloon, their eyes shot at me. But there you were — thrilled and quiet. A very good combintation for a 7-month-old. And it’s not like the mylar balloon was going to pop and you were going to inhale it and choke. Those things are practically indestructable. I say, a mother’s peace is worth a few dirty looks sometimes.
I’m getting used to this mommy thing more and more each month. Watching you grow continues to be hilarious and fun — on our way to one year!
