What’s on the tube, mom?
I’m embarrassed to say it. My 4-month-old daughter loves television. Actually, it’s not just T.V. that she loves. From pre-recorded Scrubs episodes to Strongbad emails to her Baby Bach DVD, that girl is a media addict.
It’s not that I intentionally subject her to hours of media. It’s that nothing else matters when Sophia notices the flicker of a screen - television or computer. If she’s watching one of her baby videos and I look away for a moment when the credits begin to roll, she will moan or cough or squeal (or all of the above) to get my attention: “Mom, videos over! What’s next?”
I guess I should have guessed she would have turned out this way from her first nights at home. While she was still in “womb time” and didn’t feel like sleeping when the lights went out, Chris would let me grab a few hours of sleep while he and baby caught up with his movie queue.
I’m going to keep my eye on this girl. I can only imagine that she’s going to want cheesy sitcom reruns and B-list Saturday afternoon movies in the near future.

“Mom, I am three now, I think I am old enough to see Brokeback Mountain.”
