Happy New Year!

The end of the first week of 2006 is here already. I had to wish a quick “Happy New Year,” as the window for that phrase is quickly closing in. I think there’s an unofficial rule that you shouldn’t be saying that past tomorrow. If not, there should be.

We’ve had a crazy week in the Frazier house. It started off with Sophia’s second set of shots, which proved very traumatic for us all! I mentioned before that Sophia figured out at her last appointment that the pediatrician wasn’t all about stickers and lollipops and Highlights magazines. The distrust was already in her eyes as we stripped her down to her diaper and laid her on the cold examining table. But who would have guessed the thing that would annoy her the most was the doctor peeking into her ears with her little magic light wand? The outcry we heard about that was epic. She was understandably a little worked up after a forced session of tummy time and having her ears probed and her legs pulled. Even though she never usually cries, by the time she got her shots, her wailing could be heard throughout the office. Heartbreaking for mom and dad.

But she survived the ordeal and also had to survive mom going back to work…again. It was just starting to sink in that I was going to be gone every day when I confuse her by suddenly being home for two weeks and spending every waking minute with her. Unfortunately, my wonderful vacation had to come to an end. Lucky for me, Art Center is right next to the Rose Bowl. With the Rose Bowl game being on January 4th, our vacation was extended to the 5th because the crowd would make getting to work impossible.

Sophia continues to change every day and make us laugh with every new thing she learns. Chris is working on exciting new business ventures, and I’m starting out the year with new responsibilities at work and the thrill of figuring out this thing called motherhood. I can tell already that 2006 is going to be an exciting year!
