Oh L’Amour
Name a show that opens with the lullabye “Rock-a-Bye Baby,” contains an electronic version of Ava Maria and a Tim Burton-esque stage of eerie shadowy trees, and ends in the lead singer’s grand finale in a green-jeweled speedo and big pink feather boa. If you guessed Erasure, you are so right. Oh Andy Bell and Vince Clarke, how we love you guys.
Chris is a huge Erasure fan and didn’t get tickets to their upcoming Southern California tour before it was sold out. So, lucky for him I won us a pair of tickets from a local indie rock station, Indie 103.1 (which, ironically, is owned by Clear Channel. A whole other story…). So last night, we headed out in search of some 80s synth pop, and let me just say it here and now: I am a fan. I mean, I always liked to bop my head to a little “Take a Chance on Me.” But seeing these guys live is where they really make sense. Andy Bell in six-foot wide angel wings really needs to be experienced in person in order to get the full effect.

Seriously - who DOESN’T love Erasure’s might and power when it comes to gettin’ the gay funk on? The best part of the concert was watching the audience members “Do Math With Andy” during “Ship of Fools”.
One and one was two… two and two were four.
Heh.
